Where are all the cabbage whites?

Don't know about all of you, but I have seen very little of the dreaded cabbage white butterflies this year.
Not that I want to see them, but last year I was plagued by them, even with enviromesh they managed to do some damage. This year......hardly any. Yi haaa!  :D

They are all over the border in Surrey.

Will talk to mine and remind them that Hampshire is sunnier, warmer and has lusher veg. With mesh they can get into.

A very strange year so far down here as well. I have spied 2 in my garden and no more than 7 or 8 up on the allotment all year. And haven't seen one on the coastal path. Something must have disagreed with them. Last year it was the usual snowstorm from May onwards. Maybe something ate all the grubs. Perhaps the wasps got their eye in at the end of the year.
Plenty of greenfly though this year, but not much damage. And some rabbit/badger/squirrel/deer/fox/another has started having a dig at my sweet corn for the first time in years. I knew it was a bad exposed position, right adjacent to the site's M1  :(. Going to have to come up with some sort of net solution

I started chasing one away fom my cabbages last weekend but realised it's not alone and is bound to come back. Have been inspecting my cabbage leaves and rid them of caterpillar eggs and some tiny white flys (presumably baby butterflies) as I haven't put any protection over them, beginner's luck so far I reckon. They'll swarm in soon enough I bet!

Well they seem to have gone 'up market' and I'm sure now they have tasted the 'Surrey set' they won't want to come over here.

Thinking about it, I haven't seen one yet this year, up here in Yorkshire.

My chooks must be wondering why they aren't getting their favourite delicacy, caterpillars.

No matter how many plants I have in my garden, I can always find room for one more.

The tiny white flies are probably White Fly  :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitefly

I'm not sure there is such a thing as a "baby butterfly" in the "tiny" sense

You might find this informative.  :)

Not many around up north either. That said there's not many butterflies/ bumble bee's around at all this year.We would normally see Red Admirals and Cabbage White by now. Which seems very strange considering the mild winter we have just had.

I've seen only a couple of small whites and no large whites. First year for ages I've not netted my brassicas but now the pigeons are munching them so I suppose the old rubble netting will have to go up.
