I've only seen a couple of cabbage whites around and would agree numbers are well down for this time of year.  Bee numbers seem to be down slightly too but nothing to worry about  :D

Lots of insects of all kinds here.
Saw a peacock butterfly today.
Loads of bees are getting into my greenhouse, but need help finding the way out when they have finished their work.
However there is a shortage of greenfly here.  :) I haven't seen one on the lettuces yet.

The bees have arrived at my chives-- at last - hundreds of them.  Maybe they got lost on the way this year. :)

I have found the greenfly. They are all over a patch of nettles in the garden. I have never seen such unhealthy nettles in my life. I did not think that anything ate weeds!

Nah, he's not pulling your leg, but it doesn't work well enough to be wasting your time trying it :( Did he tell you about spraying them with Garlic too? Lots of old methods like that.

Net your brassicas.  Scaffolders' debris netting is the cheapest route (the mesh needs to be very small as Cabbage White can fold up their wings to get in otherwise :( ) - particularly if you can find some scaffolders locally who are chucking it after they finish the job :)

They are here (cabbage white) - defences already up. And I've seen lots of bees too.
