Tomato Diseases
« on: May 16, 2007, 21:36 »
I could do with some advice, please.  I should know better than trying to grow my own tomato plants from seed, I have tried before and never had good results, when I have bought plants they've always done well but the price this year swayed me again to try to do the seed thing.
Now some of plants look diseased and Im confused about what wrong.  So far I think it could be blight, but thats meant to occur in wet conditions, and it hasn't been up until recently.  Also spider mite is an option.  Or (as my book says vaguely) various viruses!
Me dilemma is should I get rid of them or try to treat them,  I  am now going to try to attach a photo!

Looking at your photo' have you watered them in direct sunlight ? have you been using any lawn weed and feed, 2,4-D is in a lot of these and even the slightest amount can cause leaf curl. also it has been suggested that infrequent watering can cause leaf curl, as can stress.

Personally I wouldn't worry to much at he moment as long as they are still growing, and starting to from flowers.

Here's your photo for you

Thanks richyrich, you techno whizzkid!
I did spray them for green fly, in the very hot weather, which I've since read is a no no.  Maybe it was that?

Probably if that,s what you've done, they look nice and green apart form the scorching. but hang on for a few more replies yet

But whatever don't be put off sowing your own, far more fun than buying them in (well in my opinion ) and far cheaper.  :D

Get some seaweed feed and spray them - that will perk them up a bit. Wilkos sell some - dilute it though
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
