They may just be slow in germinating, although the ones I sowed 2 weeks ago are just beginning to emerge now.  I don't think birds eat the seeds, but they do pull out the seedlings, at least they do on my veg plot!!!!  They think they're green worms!!!!

Well maybe these spring onion eating birds are unique (sp?) to Norfolk because i have only got 1 spring onion up in a row, and they were sown weeks ago. I thought spring onions were easy to grow!

My spring onions took about 6 weeks to appear, I'd almost given up on them.  No birds tho, every thing in my garden is covered to keep cats off!  And talking of cats, blasted creatures tried to walk across my carrot patch instead of going round, it's covered in a cloche with fleece over it so had been half pulled off by the attempts to walk on it.  Stupid animal.

I put two types in (lisbon and furio) they showed within 2 weeks and are a couple of inches tall now. I must have gotten lucky this time.

My spring onions are being slow this year.
The first batch look a little straggly, but are about 4inches tall, the second batch are up to 2inches now, after about 3 weeks.
We've had long periods of overcast weather & torrential downpours here, which wont be helping matters.

Radishes however, I'm on my second harvest of French Breakfast, with the 3rd in a tub now. They're about the size of baby carrots, and taste great.
I've grown the radishes under a cloche as the first lot got attacked by the birds and I lost a few.
Organic where possible, unless it involves the snails that now seem to be eating the slug pellets for fun
