What are you doing (lottie-wise) this weekend?
« on: January 23, 2009, 16:57 »
Unexpectedly I have a free weekend: i've dug the pea trench, weeded the pumpkin patch and it's going to be too windy to give the shed its second coat of paint.

Would be good to know what other allotmenteers have planned to give me ideas!!

Just want it to be spring really... and then I'll be complaining about how much there is to do down the lottie  :?

Tomorrow (after taking my eldest to football) I am digging out two old pigeon loft foundations (my plot having not long been cleared)... then I shall be fashioning a couple of compost bins from pallets; fitting a lock on the old shed; measuring said shed for a new roof; possibly taking off the old (asbestos) roof and fitting new one.

On Sunday, I was supposed to be ploughing and digging out roots, though looking at the forecast it looks unlikely...

Nowt.

My soil's qute well draining, but after heavy rain yesterday, it's sill too wet and it's forecast rain on Sunday.

I'd do more harm than good by trying to be over-eager & get on it now.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I will be finishing building my coldframe on Saturday and off to Wilkos in Farnborogh on Sunday to buy stuff.

Can't actually do anything on the plot, as having been frozen solid for weeks, its now to wet.

compost bin from pallets - aha!
think the skip behind Topps Tiles might be calling me. I'm also going to bodge myself some shelving from pallets for the shed prior to potting season.

thanks for the inspiration - and yes, it is soo frustrating how wet it is at the moment isn't it?

Ours is too wet to do much with it at the moment.

Will collect our seed order from the shop and do some planning.

Going to dig a 10x4 bed for my Raspberries, then dig some areas over for my potatoes, which are SLOWLY chitting.

Also when is a good time to start sowing feltham Firsts.

I was going to sow them in a length of guttering, then slide them into a trench when ready.

Then Man Utd vs the mighty Spurs.

Come on harry
Thanks

We have been digging lots and lots this week (even our 3yr old has been lending a hand). Going to be doing more digging, leveling and laying lots and lots of slabs.
Hopefully rain will hold off so we can empty the shed and move it to its new home then re-fill it.
I cleaned our 'new' greenhouse frame this week so need to decide where it is to go probably where our strawberries are. So lots of washing of pots and potting them up. Then I will need to wash all the glass before putting it back in the frame.
Got to finish the chicken run and move their house and the ladies.
Would like to make time to go hunting for more free supplies I have spied some so need to ask owner if we can have the bricks and fence pannel.
Would love to extend our shed and make a porch for the shed but I really think this is probably a months work, not a weekends, esp with a toddler.

PS If anyone is board and wants to lend a hand, that would be great.
