I had really poor germination this year (except for the beetroot planted in the border in the PT).  Will try soaking and modules next year as I have my whole family looking for pickled beetroot and I haven't enough.

I shall have a go with tea bags    You will have to be on the ball watering wise as they will dry out very fast

Ann, how do you do this - scissor open the top and bung in a seed or something more complicated? Sounds like a really good idea and we get through stacks of tea....

Yes, I just snipped the tops off and popped the seeds in, whole thing a little wibbly wobbly, but once stacked together in the tray they were fine. Interestingly they didn't dry out as much as I thought. I did try perpetual spinach in them too and they also germinated fine.
