Slug Repellant Mats
« on: September 11, 2012, 22:18 »
I ordered some of the slug repellant matting, on a roll from an online retailer. They rang me back to say they didnt have any of the matting left so would I like some of the round discs instead but 2 packs instead of one for my inconvenience ...of course I said yes.
The plan is to put them under some pots I have which contain Hostas and strawberries (not together)
The mats contain a coating of copper and are supposed to give the slug/snail a shock if it ventures on to it.

Has anyone tried these and had some success.

I know its been a good year for our mollusc enemies this year, but every year for the past 5 years I`ve watched my hostas and strawberries being eaten and next year plan to take revenge.

I haven't heard of them so will be interested in progress reports.

By the way, you forgot to add "mwahahaha" at the end of your post  ;)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

For those that remember their history, it was the copper sheet that was placed on the hulls of the Royal navy ships that gave us such a speed advantage over the rest of the world that helped us "rule the waves".

So if it works on the marine growth and marine molluscs it should work on land molluscs.

I suspect the constant practicing of gun crews and the consequent ability to fire three shots before the enemy had managed their second may have played some minor part.....

Yes that's how copper deters slugs, by creating an electric current. It has been discussed at length on the forums but not in the form of your discs. It would be interesting to hear your results in order to compare with those of the copper rings/collars and copper wire techniques, both of which are very effective. :)

I'm not quite sure what this has to do with slug repelling.....
