These have been growing well and survived the rabbit and cabbage whites but some are growing into thin stalks not swede shape, others look better like very fat carrot tops.It has been very, very dry here I have now watered them but is this the cause and am I too late or will they sort themselves.

I like swede's but I am not tall enough

Our's vary some have split and have rot others are small and some are nice. I am hoping the small ones will swell when itr rains. They are supposed to taste better after a frost.
always have a target
and an objective.

Don't be disappointed if you don't get a reply Annie, sometimes people think oh I don't know much about that subject, I'll wait for someone to reply who knows more.   and you wait, and wait and..........

We did have a period, where the moderators were going to look at all the posts with no replies and say SOMETHING, just so people didn't feel neglected, but I must admit, sometimes I forget........ being on the wrong side of 50 like!!!!

i just posted a growing tip on sweedes and turnips .what i think you have is root rot and blow out ( going to seed ),dump the blow outs and harvest what you can of the others  par cook ( steam ) and then freeze the best of them .dont plant swedes on that bit for a couple years .if you have serios eelworm i would not grow them at all   thye are a difficult crop to grow ....  :x
still alive /............

Thanks Munty,I did read your write up,honest. Will have a look tommorow and pull a few.The folliage looks ok though with nice health compact  growth its the root bit that is looking odd but then i`m not sure what they should look like as they`re growing.PS no sign of eel worm anywhere.

they should look clean on the surface and the leaves should be stout and deep green . feed em potash in water 1tablespoon to a galllon water n see if that helps them come on.

That sounds like my foliage, the roots look clean but the crown are either narrow or growing up out of the soil like long thinnish carrots, hope this make sense,is this bolting in swedes or would the folliage just bolt?

bolting in swedes is the leaves sprout high with a central stem forming to carry the flower heads the thin ones that is .feed the fatter ones and let the others flower the flowrs arent that bad and you can compost the remains before they set seed anyways
