When the sun shines i dig,
When rain pours i dig
When the wind blows---I SURF.

I don't get that on my screen DD, am I the only one or is it just there for the "mod" team? lol

Could someone explain, what exactly the difference between turnip and swede is, please?!

I had to go and look, what is written on my seedpacket, to make sure, that I really had swedes, and yes indeed, that's what is growing out there and actually growing really well (that's why I had to check, if it really was swedes as it seems to be very hard to grow them according to the posts here)

It's my first try at them, I don't really like them but I like growing things and for some reason it worked: in the middle of  spinach, swiss chard, fennel, carrots and potatoes- have I mentioned yet that I'm a great fan of saving space and let things grow merrily together? ;) - they just grew in waterlogged soil. I had to harvest some of them because the slugs were starting to eat big holes into them... but they even survived severe caterpillar attacks

So please enlighten me about differences and why my ignorance towards the care of this tricky vegetable must've done the trick

Bell,

who gave away 2 of the 3 harvested ones

Turnip : salad crop - eat young and small

Swede : much larger, fodder crop for cattle (and people) - eat after a hard frost

When you are clear on that, I can advise that Scottish people call Swedes neeps (short for turnip) !!

Thanks WG...

I found a packet of something that has "turnip" written on it, I'll try that one next year,  maybe beside the swedes that I tried this year for comparison (I've enough friends who seem to like them)
