Air temperature is taken a few feet above ground level. The temperature at ground level could be as much as 4 degrees colder, so a temperature reeding of 4 degrees could still give a ground frost.  An air frost is when the temperature is 0 degrees or less so the ground temperature could be -4 degrees. so they are just as bad.

Yes an air frost is worse than a ground frost.

Neither are nice for tender plants.  :(

Grass mowings over them and a sprinkle from the hose may help if you have enough grass. I've used grass for the last few years and it normally works a treat.  ;)

Seen as though there is an impending frost for many of us this week, i thought it would be good to see where and when people get them, a bit like the snow watch one but for frosts :)

Just went outside. V cold here. Forecasting 3degrees tonight. Glad my new wee electric heater for mini plastic greenhouse arrived yesterday!  Hope everything else is ok. In particular all the flowers on my new currant bushes...

Had frosst on the car the last 2 mornings in Chester at 4.00 in the morning. I'm still tucked up at that time but the Oh is up for work then so everything gets tucked up for the night. Too much hard work has gone into starting the plants off so see the frost get em.

The BBC weather forecast was a bit confusing this evening. It warned of air frosts in rural areas down south but when I looked on the BBC tv’s interactive weather page the temperatures appeared to be higher than predicted else where.

I guess a nose out of the door will work as reliably as listening to the weather forecast.

We got away with it last night but there is a definate nip in the air this morning.  I fleeced the greenhouse benches last night just to be on the safe side.
