Maincrop Potatoes 2011 - What are you growing?
« on: February 03, 2011, 20:21 »

What maincrop potato varieties have you chosen to grow for 2011?
Did last years polls affect this years choices?
Or have you struck off into uncharted spud territory?
Please vote and let us know

If its not listed, tell us about it. Hopefully this, along with the "popular varieties" polls will help the undecided or spread the word on any varieties not previously mentioned.  The list is based on varieties mentioned last year.

King Edwards as i have grown them before, and parents grew them, so did grandparents. (Bit of stability in case the earlies and 2nd earlies didnt grow).
Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else.

I grew King Teds last year. They were great when I first started digging them up but the later pickings tended to drop quickly when boiled.
I've gone for Cara this year. Just ordered from JBA in the last hour.  :)

Ambo for me, after DD rated them so highly.
Interesting that Garden Organic, where my seed came from, lists them as 2nd earlies ::)
The potato database says they are early mains, so I don't suppose it makes much difference  :D

Desiree for me as we grew them last year and they remind me of Summer holidays on Aunty Blanche's farm - she grew them. Also Maris Piper which I buy by the tonne and intend buying none this year...hopefully. Lastly Pink Fir knobbly ones which my Mum grew and I love them - yield was always high so let's hope it's in the genes
