We're repeating Roosters and PFAs, but added some Desiree. Didn't realise they were really popular.

We are going to grow King Edward, Ratte and swedish Almond Potatoes. The season is so short here that I don't know if I can rightly call them Earlies or Maincrop, I think they will all be maincrop at the end. We usually try to have new potatoes for midsummer, it's traditional at the big dinner, but I've never managed to have my own ready. I might try them in a bag this year.

Been offered Kerr's Pink by a fellow allotmenteer,  they're highly blight resistant so allotment-friendly. Never heard of them until now, so going to give them a whirl  ;).
Oooh they're lovely! They're one of the main potatoes eaten in Ireland... very very nice mash. But better steamed than boiled, they're quite a floury spud and can dissolve v fast if over cooked

Desiree based on last years poll.

Wondering if cheap ones from Wilkos will be as good as the more expensive ones direct from experts?

I am only growing one maincrop spud this year, International Kidney which was not on your list. Would be interested to hear if anyone else is growing this ( sorry haven't trawled through the 5 pages of posts !)

International Kidney are designated a second early by the British Potato Council as a second early.

http://varieties.potato.org.uk/display_description.php?variety_name=International%20Kidney

Dundry Nurseries "Taterbase", classes it as a first early and it's under this heading that you will find it.

JBA state that they can be grown as a maincrop, but more usually as an early spud. This is the variety that when grown in the correct soil in the correct place in the correct climate, is know as "Jersey Royal". If you do a forum search, you will see many have tried and failed to duplicate this taste on mainland UK.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I'm growing Maris Piper (on the list) and Peach Bloom (not on the list).

Not tried either of them before - in fact this is only our second year of potato growing.   :)
I always find that work gets in the way of life.

Cara for me. Never fails to produce a good crop of very big spuds.

Loves our clay soil as well.
Top tip for camping....don't go.

Hi debih Hope you have better luck than me with Maris Piper, i found it does'nt like being boiled , ours turned to mush (i found Maris Peer a better spud ) but good luck anyway . I always use Desiree , ever reliable mashed , chipped ,roasted and jackets.

i have never tried desiree before, but heard a while ago that slugs are not partial to "reds", also hear that this variety are drought resistant, on my heavy ground King E's & Maris P's tend to get attacked by the slippery sods! I only grow mains as my 2 boys only eat roasties, so i try to harvest my mains before they hit the shops. The things we do for our kids huh?

I grew some Harmony last year and they were very good, unfotunately I was unable to find any locally. They were available on the web but the delivery charge for a small amount makes it too expensive.
