Jasmin plant
« on: November 28, 2010, 13:12 »
Okay, I know I can't eat this plant,  :) but it really smells nice, I got addicted to it when on holiday in Sri Lanka and Thailand :)

I have a Jasmin plant, about 2 foot high, it is in a pot, but I'd like to plant it in the garden, it is currently in my conservatory (which does have plenty of light, but I dont have the heating on)

Can I plant it out at this time of year ?

It will be near a fence, which is in shade, with general purpose compost

I have hens, can I use their manure straight in the hole before I plant it out ?

(this is when I clean them out, along with spilt layers mash and cut maize, it is dry and I usually just spread it over the grass or dig it into the chicken run)

(I can cover the jasmin plant with a fleece, to protect it from snow/frost)

Any help or advice would be appreciated, I would like this plant to really grow well :)
It's all about the journey, not the destination

I have an established Jasmin growing up a trellis so yes they can stand the cold.  I should leave the planting untill spring, but before the plant gets growing.

Fresh Chicken pooh is much much too strong for plants, add to your compost heap and it will aid rotting of the other stuff.   Cheers.     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Ah, mine is no where near established yet (2 feet tall, in a pot, but growing)

I have a hole dug, and partially filed with B&Q gerneral purpose compost,

I was waiting to see what advice I was given in here first  :)

I guess I will leave it until March/April then

Oh, well with the chicken poop, we can still just dig into to the run, I seed that with poultry grass

(I have another Jasmin plant, bout the same size, in a larger poy, but I want that to grown in the conservatory)
