I have a light sussex (I wasn't *meant* to have a LS, but ended up with one, by mistake, when I bought my table birds) bought as a day old, and now 8 weeks old.

At 1-5 weeks I was convinced it(sorry!) was a pullet, and leg ringed it as a 'keeper.'  Over the past couple of weeks I've swung between pullet and cockerel so many times I'm dizzy!

This chick is huge - already as big as my year old ISAs, comb and wattles well developed (cockerel?), saddle hackles rounded (pullet?) tail feathers, starting to sickle/are pointy (cockerel?), neck hackles not glossy (pullet?), fine sturdy legs (cockerel?)

When I look at the head, with all of the fine face furniture, I think cockerel, yet the comb and wattles are not as developed as, say, the NNs, but they are larger than the Cendre pullets.

As I don't have another LS it is difficult to compare.

Of my 13 other growers, 10 are cockerals (I think!) - good thing I bought them as table birds lol!

Think you should wait a few more weeks to see. My light sussex are big birds when young - but you can't really tell by looking at them at 8 weeks. LS are dual purpose birds anyway, so you can eat or rear for eggs either way. I have noticed thou that the combs and whattles on roosters don't seem to develop as quickly as say marans. Just an observation.

Got boy's legs!  thicker looking than the girls, so I think it's a cockerel.  Although he stands like a girl, but I suppose he's still a bit young to have the upright stance yet.

My oldest LS are 7.5 weeks, but none have wattles that big!   :D :D
