New Plot, need a growing template/B&Q seeds
« on: January 17, 2009, 16:10 »
Hi Im just about to start to draw our planting plan for our 5 rod plot, for the year th plot is roughly square in shape.  I was wondering if any one has a similar plot size plan drawn out with what plants should go where. The plot is split into 4 sections. I dont might where stuff goes but I know some co-planting is benefical to the main crops, ie ward off carrot fly etc.   Any advice welcome.

Has anyone used these B&Q Value seed packs at 38p, or people like Premier Direct on Ebay, I guess you gets what you pays for!!

Cheers

John

I used B&Q seeds last year for flowers - lobelia and nasturiums if I remember right.  They were fine for what they were and where I used them.  No special variety and a bit mean in quantity, but made a nice show outside the front where there is always a risk of dogs and kids and cars creating havoc   so I'm not going  to risk a lot there.

I don't think I would use them for something I'm going to lavish a lot of care on, but lettace and radish?  Probably fine. :)

I used premier seeds last year and there was nothing wrong with them. You do have to know what you are growing and how as the seeds come in a little clear plastic bag with no instructions etc.

If you click on this LINK, you'll get to the Information pages of this site.

Scroll down and there's a section on Allotment growing, which includes a link to planning your plot.  That might be useful starting point.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I used the radish they were fine, lettuce not so good, busy lizzies couldn't get them to germinate but think they may be difficult anyway.  Oh and beetroot fine.
