As a relative newbie to growing from seeds I am looking for some advice. I have started some seeds in the house and cold frame. Most of them have germinated but the cabbage seeds have gone quite leggy, they seem to have a couple of leaf setts but are very long. I have moved the seeds from a seed tray into a tray with 15 modules and they seem to have a good set of roots - is there anything wrong?

The same seems to be happening to the tomato seeds which I planted a couple of weeks ago.

Any help or advice on growing from seeds would be greatly appreciated.

Two things, lack of light and too much heat.

Brassicas want light, but not heat, they hate being in a house, if that's where you have them.  We are just about at the time of year where they can even go straight into the ground, so you can see how heat intolerant they are.

Tomatoes want both, so I suspect it's the old light issue. Whilst it may seem bright indoors to us as our eyes adjust to it, it not bright to a plant. You can compensate for this to some extent by placing foil behind the plant, so that the plant is in between that and the light source.
