Wilco's sale
« on: January 13, 2009, 09:50 »
Went into Wilcos yesterday and they were getting rid of all last years seed.. I got 14 packets for £2.18p. 75% off everything. If you're near your local store, pop in and have a look, could save you pounds.

Coventry's store is bigger, just hate going there.. 8)

I wonder if all the stores are doing it........Oh Richy where are you?

I'll be off next week for my annual pilgrimage to the best shop for cheap quality seeds too.

They always seem to be 3 for 2 and cheap for some proper varieties like Hurst Greenshaft Peas ....99p    amazing.

99p for a bag of Shallots or Onion sets

I can't fault 'em at all. :D

What are the risks with planting seeds that are 'past their sow by' date?

Is it a case of the longer you keep them, the less chance there is of them germinating? If that is the case, why not just stick them in a seed tray anyway and use the ones that do grow? Surely thats better than simply throwing them away?
We lived for days on nothing but food and water.

Totally agree as well (that was just the date on the back of the packets). Have a look at this as it shows how to check seeds to see if they're still viable  http://www.allotment-garden.org/vegetable/general/seed-storage-life.php.

Well I had a trip into Coventry. There were no bargain 'last year' seeds sadly, but I have bought loads ( some of which were on offer).

There were plenty of seed pots so bought some of them, some garlic and onion sets and a tunnel cloche for £5.99

So I'm very happy.

I got 2 tunnels. I unpacked one of them and it looks to be very good for the price.
