Christmas pud is a unique homely comfy smell.  If you could bottle the smell you'd be a millionaire (Rodney)

Good luck poolfield, I hope they sell  well, I get fat sniffing real Christmas puds

Thanks Jodie, I've done the second batch as well now and am waiting for the tissue and ribbons to wrap them in, they sell so much better all in pretty wrapping.

Definitely make 2 cakes, we are lucky if ours makes it to Newyear.

I take orders until about a week before Christmas   I've made the next lot today and have put the fruit in soak for the next batch. One of the ones I made today was a 3 pint pud  that's an awful lot of pud, I hope there are a lot of people to eat it.

Oooh I've never done one by post, that's exciting, I'll have to take a few different sizes to the village shop and weigh them to see how much the postage costs  and then I'll let you know.

I think that making your own might be best cos the postage will cost a fair bit and I'm still trying to find a box the right size to protect it. HAve you noticed that you end up with polystyrene packaging that you save but it's never the right size.

Make sure you look at the updated pudding recipe cos I missed the butter out first time I posted it

I've found that cooking the puddings in a slow cooker is the idiot proof way (not that I'm insinuating that................. )

Goodluck, if you make it now you could always eat the first one just to check out it tastes good but I'm not paying for your weight watchers membership if you get addicted!

Never steamed anything like this before so would I do as follows

Pudding in a Pudding Basin
Basin in Slow Cooker
Water in Base of Slow Cooker
Turn Slow Cooker On Medium
Go watch a Movie/Whatever else takes your fancy
Come back 3 hrs later ish

Oh and BTW is this the initial cook. can I then leave it wrapped up until Christmas and then steam it again for Christmas pudding.
You may not have insinuated it but you are right

Firstly lets just check, we are both talking about a plastic pudding bowl with a clip on lid are we? If it's a pottery bowl, you have to cover it with greasproof paper and foil and tie that on with string. DON'T FILL the basin to the top as the mixture expands as it cooks so leave at least a 1cm gap on the 1 pint pud (0.6 litre I think) and 2cm gap on 2 pint.

Yes you put bowl in slow cook, boiling water half way up bowl and cook either low for 6 hours, or med 4 hours. You can't really overcook it within reason (10 hours on low wouldn't ruin it) just make sure when you are finished it has gone darker. On Christmas day you could reheat in slow cooker for about 2 hours in the same way or serve one portion into a microwave safe bowl and do in microwave for 30 seconds on full power Go on try making one soon to convince yourself how yummy it is. :)
