Dont know what to do...?
« on: October 03, 2008, 19:56 »
Hi guys, I have been and gone to the pooh thread and examined all the little specimens and I still cannot make my mind up about this one...

I have a young white light sussex, about 3 1/2 months old and every day the last 5 weeks she has had bright yellow pooh, always runny, never normal.

After all my reading I still dont know what to do, put her down? I have ordered Verm-X in case its worms because two days ago I noticed it had turned red with a worm in it! These were defintely hers, as I watched the older girls pooh throughout the day and they were shitting normally.

The weakest of the bunch, her comb hasn't even developed unlike her sister who is flying ahead in height and colours of her comb, squaring up to the older girls for fun.

Do I let this one go? Could I ask my vet specifically for an antibiotic that you guys might suggest, isolate her and try bring her back to health, or is she riddled with whatever she's got?

Thanks guys,

I think before i even thought about culling her I would seperate her, get her wormed and observe exactly what she's eating :)

The other thing is I would have got Flubenvet for wormer instead of Vermx

Yet another question......

Sarah suggested flubenvet over verm x - why??
Should this be asked in a new thread? :)

Thanks Aunt Sally, I have just bought some coxoid online.

Sarah, I seriously tried getting flubenvet but places I looked online were not stocking it when I went to order. I had read about it in Practical Poultry.

I hope the coxoid gets here fast! :)

Thanks guys.

good news about Flubenvet, the manufacturers are releasing a better concentration aimed at us small keepers so we don't have to way out silly amounts of feed, saw this in Smallholding mag this week. Txx

Aunty has a post about this at the top in the hen house I think. Sure some others will disagree but I will be sticking with the original (mainly as I have a tub which will last me for ages) but also as it is cheaper for the big tub that the smallholder size! I have found it really straightforward to mix up 5g in 4kg (bung a tsp full in and mix really well). Not going to pay extra to put 2 and a half teaspoons in 4kg and mix well
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Before you use the coxoid, what feed do they have?  If its the Farmgate one with ACS in it, you shouldn't use Coxoid too as it can negate the effects of both.  That info was given to me by BOCM Paul the owners of the Farmgate range of feeds.

The feed I use for them is a product called Red Mills - http://www.redmills.ie/poultry.php

I use the layer pellets.
