A(nother) lesson learned
« on: April 12, 2016, 20:23 »
This year I decided to experiment with seeds in tape.  I cannot see small seeds so spacing is a bit hit and miss and taped seeds would seem to solve this problem.  However, it is is pretty important that if not all the length is going to be used that the end with the details of seed type is left on the remainder.  I have one such and so I haven't the faintest idea what they are.

Still, if you just plant them you can be safe in the knowledge that at least they're spaced correctly, whatever they are.  ;)

If you can photograph a seed and list what you bought, we may be able to take an educated guess as to what they are.

Yeees, Trikidiki, there is that.  I will just have to plant them and see.

I can take a picture - I use my camera to take things that I cannot see well so that I can look at them on the monitor later.  The snags are that we bought packs from various sources, except the strips seem to have the same printing, and I sort seeds into groups of indoor/outdoor sowing and roots, brassicas and legumes so they are all mixmemuddledup now.

We will just have to see what develops as the actress said to the bishop as they entered the darkroom.

Seed tapes eh? I didn't realise how much they stretched when they are wet!!!

First time I have ever used them, and fortunately used the whole amount... but if I am ever left with some I will remember what you said Oakridge!

I am sure you will find out what they are when they grow.. ☺☺

I'm not sure about the UK, but here the seed tapes seem to be limited to radish and carrots.

The one time I tried them the germination was so poor (did the seed get cooked during the taping process I wonder?) that I never bothered again

There's the rub, as well as radish and carrots I have parsnips, rocket, spring onions and leaf beet.

Most seeds are distinguishable from one another. Can't you just rip a little bit of  the tape and identify the seeds?

A good idea boldondig but possibly beyond my skill level.  We are out to lunch tomorrow at Rotherham College - cooked and served by students - and on Friday it is the free cup of coffee at Dobbie.  Some time I will try and fit in a photo.
