Placed discreetly in the bin  :?

I would have dissected but too cowardly.

Hoping they all run out tomorrow full of life. I'll offer some more greens to tempt them.

Thank you so much for posting the picture. On two occasions last year I found one of those 'lash's' in the pen and did not know what it was.  At that time I had hybrids and it was probably around the time they stopped laying although I did not connect the two. They were fine, if eggless, after that and I did not notice anything amiss apart from finding the lashs'.

Very educational!! :D  :D

I hope your chucks will be fine as well.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

Thanks Sassy. If we lose an egg a day it's no problem, if they all survive.

We only had 3 eggs today so it could be any of them. The hard part will be working out which of 6 identical layers it is. Have to watch them all one morning and check after each one comes out.

I'm pleased yours are ok apart from the non-laying.

If you're girls are laying soft shelled eggs sometimes Rob you need to increase their calcium and Vit D intake.

My blackrock has laid a total of 8 eggs, 4 of them have been softies! assumed this was just down to her being so young (21wks) and that she has only been laying 2 weeks??? What do you think? they all have plenty of oyster shell and layers pellets.
thinks her guardian angel`s gone on strike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got oyster grit on tap.

Have to increase vit D (for absorption ?)

Could try some marmite as a boost. Works for ducks  :)

Rob have you been giving AcV? might help with absorbing essential vits plus a little cod liver oil perhaps?

Marmite - yeuch!!!!!

Agree about the marmite. Foul stuff (or fowl?).

have to get some ACV. I know a horsey place that does it. Could get some limestone flour too if that might help.

Better have some early Christmas pressies to me  :)

Managed to get in the run, had a complete move round just to cheer them up a bit, dumped a load of leaves in and thrown a handful of corn into the pile to keep them busy.
All seem happy and normal, but one is slightly clear of the rest, as if she doesn't feel comfortable getting into the fray. I'm thinking she's our culprit but is not showing any other signs for concern.

Only got 3 eggs so far which could be down to the rubbish weather causing artificially short days. I think Friday is supposed to be brighter so we'll see what happens then. Hope to get some ACV and once I find the germolene, I'll administer that to any feather-pecked birds.

UPDATE

We had 6 out of 6 eggs this morning so I'm assuming the lash was just an abberation and they're all back to normal again.

We suspect that the fireworks upset them more than we first thought.

Thanks for all comments. The learning never stops !  :D

Glad they are all feeling more themselves

Ta.
We had resigned to the probability of an eggless hen but this is great that she's not damaged at all.

They've all had their greens and corn and I'll lock them away in a few minutes.

I'm thrilled tbh. We were worried she'd have problems to come but they must be hardier than we feared.

Obviously no idea what caused it but just glad all's well again.
