A funny thing happened... Full production resumes

OH found this in the nest box this afternoon. Sat there pretending to be an egg but seems to come from a planet elsewhere in the universe.

Is it a soft egg somehow shrivelled or some other phenomenon ?

I don't think I've seen any UFOs flying by recently so I'm assuming it may have originated from within one of the hens  :?

Any ideas as what it may be ?

Oh bother, I've forgotten what it's called.

It's where they shed part of the lining of their uterus, isn't it?.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I thought that was just a tiddly bit of tissue. Didn't realise it was half their bodyweight

It's one of those days. Can't wait til it gets dark and we won't know what's happening out there  :D

Is it what they call on the Omlet site a 'lash'?
The bad news is mine produced them and seemed to come to the end of their egg-laying days .... but I may not necessarily have matched the right chicken to the lash  :?

I know it happens from time to time. But didn't quite expect this.
