It's not a good sign Rob     As Kate said it the shed lining of the uterus.  It is sometimes shed as the result of an infection.  She may recover (or she may not ! <sad> )

What do I need to do ?

Just shut them up for the night. What's the likely cause of the infection ?

Hard part might be finding out whose it is.

There's nothing to do unless one of them apears unwell.  If there is a poorly one do the usual checks for infection like: sitting hunched and not eating properly, temperature under the wing compared to another bird.  If one of them is unwell you'll then need to consider the options but she may get over it without you doing anything (possibly).

Understood. No signs of ill health that I'm aware of. I've not had time to check on them much recently.

One has had a bit of pecking round her vent which I've sprayed with purple spray. Beyond that, all seem to be eating/drinking.
Been down an egg or two recently. But had 6 eggs the other day.

Will check tomorrow. Got dentist first thing, so asap. Understand about options.
Might call in Aunty Annie and Uncle Brian if it comes to that but hope for a recovery. :?

thats so gross but with u posting that pic rob it gives other ppl something to look out for in the future i know its taught me soemthing else about what the girls could do .

hope your girly isnt ill an recovers very soon .

i did have a very soft well hardly any shell covered egg today an god that was just as gross

Quick update on the situation. Spent a bit of time examining best I could.

A couple have been feather pecked on the back and look quite sore. I know one was doing it before and I purple sprayed which held her off a bit.

One of the pecked hens was a bit quiet earlier but none of them felt warm under the wings. She picked up a bit later after I'd hung some greens up.

Will go looking for tea tree spray/cream this evening which may stave off the attacks but may just move her on to another hen.

Doesn't explain the lash unless one had been pecked and got an infection.

Will keep checking and trying different thigns.
