Sown more salad leaves, planted aubs in final place (given up growing them in the greenhouse), shifted 12 barrow loads of manure to raised beds, gave cues a good water.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

Trip out in the wheel-chair completed this morning and my father approves so far.... the little kitchen garden is beginning to take shape.

I ran the soil miller backwards and forwards over the hefty chunks of clay having only recently finished digging in the lawn. It took quite a while but there's now a good chance of sowing some carrots, beetroot, spring onion, spinach and anything else it's good to have close at hand.

We'll see in the morning what the foxes make of it.  ::)

Eventually got round to planting some stakes for my climbing beans.  Went on a slug hunt and beheaded several.  Admired my tomato "trilly" which has just set it's third truss.

Keeping a close eye on the cherry situation, and hope that the weekend stays dry enough for me to get up a ladder.

Yesterday I popped down for an hour and planted out some Peppers - they've been hardened off for a bout 2 weeks and were happy enough outside although how they'll cope down the plot with last night's winds remains to be seen!

Also erected a cane wigwam and direct sowed some Cobra and Blue Lake french bean seeds as the ones I'd raised from seed in the shed went leggy and died!  Hope they do better in the ground - at least they are getting a watering today!

Also picked some strawberries and lettuce, scattered a few slug pellets around, picked the tops off my broadbeans as some were getting blackfly and did some obligatory weeding!

I carried the rake as far as our back gate intending to go over the road and play with the veggie plot...... then it rained (while I was collecting dried washing to take with me) and Mrs Plots put the rake away again before I'd noticed.  ::)

Watered in the greenhouse and that's all today
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

Firstly we weeded the brassica bed - loads of chickweed, goosegrass and some kind of dead nettle with small blue/purple flowers. We have Minicole, Greyhound and savoy cabbages, All Year Round and Snowball cauliflowers, and five Early Purple Sprouting Broccoli plants. They are all growing well, but are definitely behind on last year because of the cool weather.

Next,we contructed a sort of throw-together coldframe ready for the butternut squashes, which we've held back because of the cold winds - something squashes really don't seem to like. Fortunately, people around here all seem to be having replacement windows, so there is no shortage of recyclable materials  :)

Lastly, I checked over the strawberries, and managed to collect enough for a portion each for myself and Martyn, lovely with a bit of ice-cream... I've no idea what variety they are, we inherited them when we took over the allotment three years ago. They seem to produce almost continuously from now until about August or even September.

We took home, besides the strawberries, some peas, two lettuces and a few radishes - not bad for Stoke on Trent's cold and damp June  :)

Yesterday we had an orange weather alert for storms hail and winds, so I made sure everything was properly staked.

It was very odd, it looked almost like a microburst in the garden, a swirl of grass along with three tomatoes completely flat, but everything else left along.  fortunately the tomates hadn't snapped, they were just lying down, so once I staked wthem they looked fine.
