wind damaged potatoes
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:22 »
Hi all my first post and yep its a problem one  :tongue2:
I have been a long time reader of a few forums for advice & tips and this is the one i wanted to join.
So here i am  :D

Ok i love growing new potatoes since the day i grew some from a supermarket which started sprouting.

I have grown new pots for 3 years now and am geting better each year.
This is first year where i have escaped all frost due to puting them out a bit later & observing the weather forcasts.
So why i ignored the high winds i dont know cos i woke up to this little horror this morning.

As you can see i have loads of pots going on (26) maris bard & pentland jav)
And in the raised bed and behind shed i have some maris piper which i didnt want but had to have them (long story)

So my first newbie question is what do i do from here regarding the wind damaged plants ?
Do i just carry on and hope for the best by feeding them as normal ?
I was thinking of puting canes in and surporting them back up ?
Any advice & tips would be very welcome  :D

p.s
My pics wont upload due to being to big in size.Any way around this ?

Looking at the plants it is just because they do not have the support around them of the others, as they would grown in a big bed or open ground

Later in the year mine in the ground do flop over as well, when they get really tall, usually after heavy rain. (epecially huge maincrops)

The leaves will carry on doing their work and you will still get potatoes, so don;t worry

Could you please also add in your locality to your profie, so it shows with all your posts? This might be useful with other questions or responses.  :D

Most plants do actually want to grow, and do their darned bestest to do so, too  ;)

I use photobucket --- [IMG] codes -- so you can see the picture in the post itself, rather than a link :)

That's the idea of the guide, it's aimed at getting the pictures here, not linking to another site.

I can't see that causing any lasting harm..

If you go to "Embed this image" on the right-hand side of the imageshack page and copy the text next to "Forum", pasting that text into your post will display the image in the post.

I've edited your post for you, hushda24, so that you pictures show instead of just a link.

If you choose the "Forum" link from "Embed this image" it should work for you too :)

Thanks for all the help & advice above for the pictures  :tongue2:

As for the potatoes today
Only the 1st pot in pic is damaged really so not bad at all.
1 stem was broken and hanging by a thread,I pulled it off at that point.
Had a nice bud growing on it aswell.
Should i cut it off down at soil level ?
all the others look a bit windswept but are fine  :D

Just cut it off neatly anywhere along the stem -- it'll be fine  :)
