empty beds
« on: May 19, 2012, 18:39 »
i haven't planned to have anything in my bed once the early pots are lifted. Am i too late to start parsnips to put in? I also have some leeks i could put in or i could bung in a few courgette plants. The bed  is about 3mx 1.5m. I will have the same prob with the 2nd early bed that is 3mx5m. My potatoes are only a few inches tall at the moment

Thanks

We did courgettes last year after the earlies. brilliant, they were. Thus year it's outdoor tomatoes... We grow in baskets 40cmx40cmx50cm deep.  takes lots of water, but less bending!  Try anything you like!

Here's a recent thread about what to plant after earlies.

It will be too late for parsnips though.

I'll be following up with more peas as we eat the peas and the roots feed the soil for the onions next year.

I think you're right Mums, and last year, we brought on a few parsnips in paper pots, and planted them as soon as the leaves showed.

They actually looked great, although they were smaller than they are in the shops, (about half a pound each).

I've done the same this year to see what happens, but not with all of them, just a few at the ends...
