I think I'm obsessed with compost heaps ...
« on: October 23, 2007, 10:03 »
... I have five compost bins on the allotment and one at home.

Four on the plot are made out of pallets and one is a made out of galvanise.  Two are ready for flinging about and one is about half cooked.  One has just been filled and the other is about 3/4 full.

When I had a wander about the plots on Sunday everyone else seems to just have one or two bins.  How do they cope?  Where does all my rubbish come from?? (I do bring all my lawn clippings, household scraps and garden waste from home, but I only have a small town garden!!)

Perhaps they all have some kind of secret that makes compost in a few weeks whilst I leave mine gently stewing for about a year.  Hmmmm ....

What ya fink??

Ignore, I have got five. Slow stuff, leaf, etc, one fresh, one half there, one ready, blah, blah, blah.

The guy next to me, dancing on them, to fit it in :D

We have 3 wooden and 3 big square ones from the council and a wormery!I am always wondering if it is just me but since I can`t be bothered to turn them over regularlly and it works albeit slowly I don`t worry too much.2 are ready for riddling now but I`m putting it off `cos then all the others will need turning.

Pair of pallet bins  each 4 foot square,
4 circular plastic bins type you get off the council,
1 big square plastic
1 compost tumbler

I have 3 compost bins, a large wooden one, 2 polythene ones that lock up against hungry critters and I'm fixing the area where I'll put in a 4th large cage affair for small branches, leaves and such. I too just let mine stew in their own good time. Some bird feathers would help speed things up. You interested in volunteering, Celtic Eagle?
