Has anyone planted their Onions
« on: October 18, 2007, 16:32 »
Hi

Is it too early to plant onion sets :?:

I planted mine last week, but my work colleagues dad said it was way too early and that you should plant them until January :?

I have also planted mine in October.

I've planted some of mine: autumn sets, Senshyu Yellow. There are several varieties that can be planted now, right up into November. In fact, to bulb up properly, they are best planted from early October, and NOT earlier!

Some varieties are for spring sowing, such as Sturon.

What varieties do you have?

I've planted out my shallots today and I've got a couple of varieties of onions to go in as well.  I tried spring planted sets this year but I was a bit late with them so they didn't grow as big as I would have liked but I'll see how these ones do.

Planted some ELectric on 5-Oct.  I have to plant spring-sown stuff later than you but autumn-sown earlier.  They are just peeping through now.

Hope Electric works better than Senshyu has done in previous years.
