Have three hens laying now, but had two in one nest box and then the third hen laid in the second box, was her second egg, one of the eggs laid before her was smashed bits, was a bit upset is it just that they have to practice?

When they first start laying the shell can be a bit soft/thin, and yes, they will get into a routine and probably all lay in the same nest box!
