Chicken poo question
« on: April 28, 2011, 13:35 »
Hello

We have four Columbian black-tails which free range in our garden. They eat oyster shell, mixed corn and grower finishing pellets and whatever else they find in the garden.

I am a bit worried as one of them when they poo its a mustard colour and runny.

They seem to be getting enough water.

Is this normal? should we be doing anything different with their feed?

Thanks

Soozie

Just out of curiosity how old are they?
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thats really helpful thank you for the link :) They are about 14 weeks old not yet laying. They were wormed yesterday with Diatom so will keep an eye on them.

Thanks again

It's worth taking a look at this recent discussion on worming as well.  There's a good discussion on various options herbals diatom and flubenvent.  Just thought it might be helpful

Hi Soozie,  until recently I was using Diatom (along with a variety of other things like garlic, cider vinegar, pumpkin seeds, etc) to keep my chickens worm-free.  It didn't work.  :(

Do keep a close eye on your chickens and if the runny poo continues and/or they show any other signs of stress on their digestive system or failure to thrive, please do consider a chemical worming treatment.

I am continuing with the Diatom and other supplements, but will no longer expect them to be my only worm treatment.
