Just about to start out keeping chickens. Jusy doing some homework on the subject and will be going through this website with a fine tooth comb all weekend!!!
If anyone has any immediate do's and don'ts I'd welcome your time.

Very first off though, can chickens live in an area close to and under some very large conifer trees that drop stuff and makes the grass very poor. Just thinking the conifer smell and everything might not be a good enviroment for chickens??

Mine love the shade conifers give them and can scratch for england without that messy grass getting in the way.

I would suggest not putting their coop too close to the trees tho.

As long as there is some grass for them to eat/scratch and dig.

Good luck combing the site. I had hours of fun searching on here, got so confused i then posted and asked questions. Everyone will help and give you advice as they are a friendly lot

good point about not to close to the trees , they will shed water long after its stopped raining. also make sure they do get plenty of sun at some point of the day

Ours love the conifers.  They're dry underneath in the rain and snow, great places to have lots of dirt baths, a nice secure place to build a nest and after today, when the neighbours friends dog decided it was having them a great place to hide, clever chooks

My run is next to some large cinifers and I have had no problems with them

Ours too are mainly under the conifers.  No problems!
