Is it possible to make a living out of chickens or am I just day-dreaming?  I hatched some Faverolles last year and I noticed on another poultry forum that someone wants a couple of hens, so should I offer them or keep them with me for their eggs.  If I sell them is there a procedure I should follow or questions I should ask?  I haven't a clue what I'm doing and could do with some advice please.

Hi kegs you may not make a living out of it but will cirtanly subsadise keeping chucks, I did a small profit/cost analasis a few weeks ago on bluebells after taking into account of the food and the inoculations and the percentage of males born, to make a profit i would need to sell 6 birds at £15.00 each to break even so selling at £20.00 would give me a five pound per bird potential proffit   but after factering in the losses of infertile eggs and the cost of disposal of the cocks i worked out to break even would be good going. selling fertile eggs is more proffitable with an averidge cost of good breeds going for £5.00 pluss pp for six  good look though
