Looking after a brooding hen.

Hi
I have given in and put 6 eggs under my broody hen, she is in a cage on her own with a dog carrier for a nest and in a stable.
Is it 3 times a day I need to make her come out? For how long each time?
Also she is not eating her pellets much but she will quickly eat wheat, is this enough?
This is my first time letting any hen brood so all advice welcome.  :)
1 Hubby, 2 children, 2 Welsummers, 1 Leghorn Banty, 1 Wyandotte Banty, 1 Barnevelder, 2 Isa Brown, 1 Rhode Island, 1 Goldline,1 Maran, 2 Mottled Leghorns, 1 Leghorn cockerel & 2 Jack Russells

I lift mine out twice a day - however some get out on their own in which case they are fine. I let mine out to mix with the others during this time and to get some grass, dustbathe etc Dust bathing is very important whilst broody as they often get mites. mine eat very little layers when broody (they are not very active and stop laying so don't need as much - they will lose weigt though.
Staffies are softer than you think.
