how's everyone girls laying.
« on: February 01, 2011, 20:36 »
Hi,  im pretty new to the world of chickens.  I currently have around 20 girls all fairly young but at present only get around 2 eggs a day.  Is this normal for this time of year.  I currently feed them on layer pellets and they have had the full run of my plot for the last month or so.  Any ideas appreciated.

Hi, i have four hens all the same age (hatched end of may 10). Over the last month three of them have built up to laying every other day. Babs, my wellsummer however is still showing no signes of joining in with the fun and games of the egg laying business!!!  I think she has seen the bother it has caused her sisters and is thinking of becoming a cock!!

My 8 girls give me 6 eggs most days with the odd 4 and 8 just to keep me on my toes. I got them at Easter last year

I have 5 pullets (2 bantams) and the three LF are laying - occasionally!  Some times I'll get an egg, sometimes not... sometimes I'll even get 2, but that is rare!

Once spring is here I'll be buying some more production layers just so I can start selliing eggs again while I'm waiting for my (yet to be hatched) hens come into lay!

They are all different and given the right conditions will lay when they are ready! :)

I have 5 hens - one hen has not laid one single egg in her entire life - they are all approx 19 months old. I have one hen who started laying about three weeks ago and she lays for a couple of days and then has one or two days off - the rest have decided to go on strike!  They are all pure breeds so I know they stop more for the winter months.  It was towards the end of February when they first started laying last year.  I keep threatening them with the pot- but - they know I wouldn't do it :D
2 Springer Spaniels, 1 Speckled Sussex,  1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Light Sussex, 1 Welsummer, 2 Barnvelders and 2 silver Pencil Wyandotes.

Just started laying 4 welsumers about eight eggs a week at the moment I'm sure that will increase as the days get lighter and warmer, Carolbriar are you sure no one is eating them 19 months seems a long time for the hen not to lay.
