I have always found B&Q's multi purpose of excellent quality for seedlings and potting on. I think it was voted top in a poll a few years ago but don't quote me on that. i normally get 3 x 70kg bags for £10.

I also use Wickes's multi purpose too, which again in my experience excellent quality. A lot of the growers on our site favour this for seedlings as it is very fine and seldom needs riddling.

Wickes multi purpose for me, but it does contain peat (that's probably why it's good quality) It seems to be the peat-free composts that have the problems

I got a few bags of J. arthur bowers multi pupose from the lottie shop, £3 a bag.
it looked ok, nice and rich but it was full of sticks and twigs. >:( and I ended up sieving it through before planting my leek and onion seed.

I got my compost delivery today 60 bags I did only order and pay for 16 bags I so phoned them up and told them what had happened and that they had made a mistake and when they were coming to collect what was over they told me just to keep it as it was cheaper to right if off than come and collect it. now I have to find a home for all this compost.

I got the B&Q three for a tenner 70L bags but it's very "twiggy" so not good enought for seed sowing  :(
I'll have to go and buy more of something else when I start sowing my seeds.

the bag of Homebase compost I bought, is more like compost from the heap, with bits like straw in it. I think I'll have to buy a bag of proper seed compost from somewhere.

Wyevale had a (Club Members) offer for 3-for-2 (or might have been 4-for-3) last year, before the start of the main season, and hoping that they will do that again I'm hanging on!
