Ok all, this may seem like a stoopid question ( :oops: don't laugh) but what are seed potatoes? Are they just potatoes that were kept back to plant the next season? In which case, how come they last so long? Or have they been grown from the seeds in the seed pods? What would happen if you were to chit and plant a bag of supermarket spuds? Why don't we grow spuds from the seeds? Are the little seed pods extremely poisonous?

Okay, I really can't think of any more spud-related questions!

Ignore the above-ground fruit which forms behind the flower - poisonous and not viable for planting.

Seed potatoes for planting are retained from previous year's crop - some folks do, some folks don't.  Supermarket tatties will grow - some folks do, some folks don't.
