Depressed chicken
« on: June 14, 2010, 19:13 »
I think Henny Penny is depressed!!! We took her away from her babies a couple of weeks ago, they were about 6-7 weeks old, she has now stopped eating and has now weight to her at all, i have taken her away from the cock bird and have her in a separate pen at present. Any suggestions???
Dont count ya chickens till they hatch!!!!!

Well we are so worried about Henny Penny that we have brought her indoors now, she has had a little to eat, so hoping she will pick up, i really do think she is pining after her babies, i feel so mean now for taking them away

You could feel under her wings and do the same with another hen or two and compare the temperatures  :).
Hope she gets better

I got a cheap digital thermometer from Ebay to check our chicks temps, just stick it up their b** or under their armpits?  Not sure if their armpits are like humans, if not, well you know the other place to stick it!!   :D :D

well have given her a check over, she is so skinny as said in earlier post temp is 38.3, she is just skin and bones, she has just stopped eating from when we took her away from her babies, would it be worth me trying to put her back in with them and remove the babies over a period of time?
She went back in with the boy when we took her away so she wasn't on her own.
Really don't want to lose her, as this is the girl we spent the money on havin her toe amputated.
Crop is empty and i have felt around the vent nothing hard there only bone.
She did start to lay agin for a few days but when we moved her she stopped again.

Well put her back in with the babies early tonight, she is still just standing there, not sure what to do with her as she isn't eating. So she is getting weaker as the days go by, gonna get some meal worms tomorrow and if she is still with us try her on some on them.

try her with chick crumb and water with vitamins added. You may have to resort to syringe feeding her. Have you felt to see if she is egg bound?

Good evening all, well unfortunatly went up to check on Henny Penny and she had died, so she never got to have her meal worms, but she died with her babies, do feel guilty now for taking her away from them, but they was nothing we could do for her. RIP Henny
