well i spotted this little one growing.

he looks a bit like my cabbages did when they were little but the second set of leaves are completely different.

i'm guessing it is from the same family - a brassica of some kind?  anyone got any suggestions?

i gave him a collar just incase, seen as the foot fly seem to like my others....

Probably runch or charlock.  This is runch

Two comments re your collar though.   Looks very small, I use collars 12" square to give 6" all round plant.

ALso looks very stiff & might cause stem damage to growing plant.

My immediate thought was oilseed rape...

And it's still my thought!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

thanks for the comments - i think i'll leave it and see.  always fun,  never know what you're gonna get.

well i had no ideas about the collars - i thought it was simply something round the base i didn't realise it needed to be more like a sheet!

but as for the material i think i got that bit right - it's foam that i had left over from making greetings cards,  so its very soft and flexible and will move easily as the plant grows

Good stuff - it looks a little like stiff plastic in the photo.
