I've never had a problem with rabbits eating them, especially when there's usually something far more tasty (from a rabbit's point of view) nearby....

Rabbits love onion leaves (even more than garlic leaves).

Our domestic rabbits won't touch them and I've never had onions damaged by rabbits even though I've had other nearby crops eaten.

The rabbits round here will continually eat the leaves right down to the bulb until they kill every single onion plant.

Slugs and snails have had a go at mine, especially the shallots.

Rabbits ate the growing tips on our onions,we had to cover with net ,but better idea is to fence around the plot of onions , has to be about 3' high though and they will dig under , so have a 1' lay on the ground , 4' width fencing.

It should be pointed out that CD's onion patch is a bit larger than average ...

Thats true WG  :)  but I dont think we grow as many onions as you do garlic !!

The spare onions we planted and did nt protect have been grazed and are fit only to be pulled as spring onions with short damaged stems .

At least that way we get to eat some of the crop.

If we protected them now they may pull through and make a bulb worth storing but we have run out of net .

Tried lead travelling fast but would need nightly patrols and our friendly man with gun has other plots to patrol. So We'll have to get a couple of ferral/farm cats ,if anyone knows of any female farm cats needing new homes , please PM me .
