Onions trying to flower
« on: May 21, 2007, 12:11 »
I have some autumn type onions growing away on my veg patch. Generally they look quite healthy, but some of them are throwing up what look like flower buds. Should I cut off these flower buds/stalks?

Any advice on this would be much appreciated
Brian

Yes, remove then as soon as they form.  Nip out low down, where they emerge from between normal hollow stalks

The flower stalks from garlic, called scapes, are lovely sauteed in stir fry.
