Gale force winds
« on: November 13, 2009, 19:22 »
We have been forcast some really very strong winds both overnight and during the morning tomorrow.

My questions is will my chickens be ok in really strong gusts or should I keep them in their house untill the worst is over.  They have water and feed in the house, so would be 'happy', albeit I could probably hear their protests over the noise of the wind!

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Emma

As long as you are sure the coop will withstand the coming gales, I'd be happy enough to leave them to it. That's what's going to happen to mine anyway.
Chooks can be daft, but they aren't stupid. ;)

I have just had the roof blow off one of my chicken pens
Cheap ebay rubbish.
I have moved most of my pens indoors now for the winter, this was one of the last ones to be moved on Sunday.
Had to rescue 3 very wet bantams and put them in an indoor pen.
All this in my jimjams, already had a shower, got to have another now. :nowink:

It is terrible here, sounds like the roof will come of the house next
We are quite high up so catch the wind and the snow
The rain is absolutely bucketing down and has been since about 4 pm

We had our roof blown off and smashed to pieces a couple of weeks ago  :(

I'm going down the garden every half hour at the moment to see if the new one is still in one piece .... What I'm going to do during the night, I'm not sure, but it certainly isn't going to be sleeping!  I'm not looking forward to tomorrow morning, when the weather is supposed to get worse and be even more gale force winds.

It just doesn't seem to have stopped this week, the garden is flooded, the girls are covered in mud and now, their house is going to get destroyed :( :( :(

Me stressed .... no way!

Blimey!  That's some rough weather.
I'm guessing the centre of the storm is above us right now here in North Wales. After some really heavy rain it has suddenly gone an almost deathly calm.
Brrrr. Sends a shiver down me wotsits....... Spine, that's it.  :tongue2:
Good luck folks, and chucks, and ducks, and geese and whatever it is you all keep.... :)

Ohh eck Jen and you are not that far from us!!!

Matilda the tropical oasis of Wolves is only barely ten miles from me. The wind is really picking up now, even the cat wants to stay indoors. Touch wood everything here seems to be holding up fine and so far at least the shed has stayed put. The rooks are tumbling in the sky like badly torn bits of black polythene. Leaves swirling round the garden but no more rain yet, but the weather person on TV has forecast more. Must get down the plot later to see of all is well there to.

Oh to be in England now that summers here.................. :D

We had to manually put the ducks to bed, it took forever they were petrified, this morning outside looks like a bombs hit it (we are very exposed here) even my 8foot holly tree has been ripped from its roots!
The ducks this morning all tried to fly off  leave home, they cant though cos they is runners....gave them their favourite lettuce sandwiches which they refused....sigh...they are still very stroppy with me :(
