Force Feeding
« on: September 07, 2013, 14:38 »
I have a Cream Legbar pullet with a really bad sinus infection which I am treating by cleaning daily and with antibiotics.  The problem is that her eyes are so swollen and whilst she is pecking at where the food is  I am not sure she is actually eating.  Is it safe to force feed her and if so, how and what with???  thanks

No. You could cause her to choke. It will also be frightening. What you can do is trickle water at the side of her beak using a spoon or syringe. If she's thirsty, she will swallow, if not she'll shake it off. If she's at the right place to eat and there's plenty of food just watch; it's likely she'll work it out very quickly. Hope she gets well soon.

you could try with moist food, so mash with water or crushed pellets with water or even porridge with water.
