Empty Greenhouse...
« on: August 13, 2009, 10:52 »
OK, I've managed to grow a fair few things in my first year as an allotmenteer having previously no real experience or knowledge!!

but now, I have an empty greenhouse (well, the chillies and peppers are still there) and am unsure if or what I can start growing now? Any suggestions??

I would keep planting modules of lettuce to move out when appropriate. Prepare some seed trays for autumn planting of veg.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

If you have the room, dwarf french beans, planted now (ish), say 5 or 6 to a builders bucket, will produce a few meals.  Allow one to one & a half buckets per person you normally feed.

You may well be beaned out now, but our memories are short, and fresh beans towards the end of November are very welcome.

I'm sticking some lettuce, carrots and beetroot in mine, I've got tons of seeds so doesn't matter if they fail, also attempting to over winter chilli plants for the first time.

In a few weeks time you can sow winter lettuce to stay in there, corn salad, rocket winter hardy spring onions, radiccio or endive all for winter salads.

I like to grow some spinach with winter protection as well :)
