been thinking, could this have been caused by an injury? there's a cobb chick in the brooder who has no buisness being there as he is enormous, i have put off moving him out as i've nowhere to put him where he won't be on his own or bullied by the others, he's a colossal size for 8 weeks.

It could be muscular, if your cobb has been sitting on her neck, keep an eye on her for the next 24 hrs and see if there is any movement

no change in Raffles, it was too late last night to call the vet, and i had to leave for work at 6.30 this morning  (too early to call the vet) i have now called and i'm waiting for the vet to call me back, it doesn't look like Will's on call so will have to make do with one of the others, really worried it might be Mareks and i'll end up having to cull them all as once you've got one with it there's no cure and the others will all be carriers :( i don't know if i will be taking her in today as i don't really want to get the vet out to the practice on a sunday, but if it is Mareks the sooner we know the better.

Make sure you are armed with as much info as possible for when your vet calls - mereks, thiamin deficiency or muscular this way your vet can look up the symptoms and be a bit better informed if he/she isn't a poultry specialist.
Hope it goes well, fingers crossed for you.
Staffies are softer than you think.

he was almost sure it isn't Mareks, but not really sure what's wrong with her, he gave her a shot of antibiotics so hopefully we should see some improvement soon.

Fingers crossed for Raffles :)
We have 17 chickens, 3 quail, 2 dogs, 3 cats and that's enough (for this week)

Raffles has Parathyroid (diaganosed by our own very clever Aunty) i didn't know silkies and polands have holes in their skulls with the brain bulging through (bred like that for fashion?) and are prone to bashing themselves on the head and getting brain damage, we are taking her to see Will this afternoon and no doubt he will confirm it and give us more antibiotics/anti inflamatory's, i'm afraid he didn't give a good prognosis for long term survival but we can but try, fingers and toes crossed.

she has improved a lot already, she is now eating and drinking (albeit a bit messily) by herself (she couldn't yesterday)and her head is more or less in the right place and not on back to front like before, Pip was so distressed and upset about her last night she wanted to get Sam out of bed to put her down, i told her to give her a bit more time for the anti's to work, now i think she has hope that she make pull through.

things are looking good for Raffles, she's up and about and scoffing chick crumb like there's no tomorrow, we still have to let her sleep in a small box as when we tried her in the hamster cage she paced up and down and i was afraid of her bashing her head again (Will could actually feel her brain swollen through the hole in her head, yeeuw, made me feel quite squiffy) we have 3 more injections to give her, i have injected horses, cows and sheep but never a small wriggly ball of fluff, Will showed me how so i feel quite confident, there are no guarentees she will survive in spite of things looking up, we're prepared for her to take a turn for the worse and if she does Sam will do the deed swiftly, but where there's life there's hope and if anyone can come back from this injury  this little lady can.
