goose eggs gone cold
« on: June 09, 2009, 18:42 »
I found Eva sitting on some other eggs (I think she's got confused) as there was 1 broken hens egg with the goose eggs. They have gone cold & I don't know how long they have been left? I'm on day 8 with them. I came home from work about 6ish this evening and put her back on them.

Any ideas if they'll be ok or not? I guess it's just a case of wait and see now.

Cheers.

They go cold to the touch very quickly so you may be lucky in that they've not been left too long :)

If you can candle them tomorrow or Thursday if they've gone it will be obvious then :(

Really really hope you've found them in time :)

Are you able to keep her shut in the broody house? Let her out am & pm for a stretch and stuff?

Sarah :)

oh ww I hope they are ok, fingers crossed. My hen got shut out of her coop when sitting and was off for a good hour, and chicken lady had her electric go off for a couple of hours but mine are now hatching and chicken ladies are as well so hopefully yours will be ok.
Staffies are softer than you think.

She is hogging one half of the egg laying box unfortunatly. She's been really good so far. I've just gone & checked her, she's still on them but they feel very cold still  :( . I've got a feeling she's been off them for a few good hours to be honest as they feel cold through.

Blimey I've been desperate for some roman goose eggs as well. Damn damn and damn.

Thanks Sarah & Joy. I'll do myself some positive vibes for the eggs. Seeing the new baby geese has made me all excited! xxx

Hi Sarah, Oh that would be lovely, really good of you to offer. Thankyou. I'm a bit devastated about finding them cold. I will give them a couple more days to see how they go (as you've advised) & if they have gone, I will PM you. Mine are 3 romans & 1 roman x american buff cross.

I've not long checked them again and they have warmed up nicely. I did candle them and 3 of them have got largish dark areas but I can't see any movements yet.

I'll take some pics tomorrow & put them up. See what everyone thinks.

Thank you for all the help.. xxx

Sorry to have kept you waiting. I'm still a bit unsure about the eggs. Here's some pictures taken yesterday

They are changing shape but I can't see anything moving. I'm on day 10.

Really tricky to tell from a pic,   I had a look and the video I did was day 17. Did you find it in the goose thread?

If you tilt them ever so slightly then tilt back can you see anything moving?

Are there any thick ish looking veins leading from around the air cell?

Are there any veins obvious? If they have died these will dry up and not look as prominent as they did before :(
