Popped into the two central Glasgow branches of Poundland today in hunt of their slug traps. No luck with those, but now in stock are 105x60cm hessian sacks, which I reckon are ideal for storing potatoes... all natural, biodegradable and breathable (although not lightproof, so you'll need to keep them somewhere dark).

I'm not falling for that one  :D If you need to ask you shouldn't be allowed in ...

Also (forgot to mention) if you're having troubles with the birds, 4x5 metre bird nets are also in stock.

Bug*er, I looked at these today but didn't pick any up due to them not being lightproof. Will go back and get a couple. Will have to find a dark place to store them though, garage is no good as it has windows in the side of it. It might sound silly but is the loft a good place to store veg? I know it's a pain going up there to get the veg but at least it's dark.

Not if you're panning on putting half a ton of spuds up there, ceiling joists are not designed for that, in fact they bow when people walk on them. ::) ::)

Can you chuck a thick dust sheet (old curtain?) over them in the garage?  keeps light out, the veg accessable and the ceilings intact....

Years ago in my first year growing spuds in any quantities, I did just that.

Cardboard boxes with a old curtain slung on top.

Werked fer me!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I got a soaker hose from them, connected to the butt and there is enough pressure to get a good drip going for my toms, a complete irrigation system for £2, had to buy another connector.
