Leeks disappeared
« on: May 28, 2009, 18:38 »
Transplanted leeks last night as per normal method. Came home  from work, half of them removed from holes and one third disappeared.

Any clues..pidgeons? can't be rabbits

Thanks

Sorry to hear. I would hazard a guess at birds

I transplanted my leeks last weekend, and I had just finished, when my cat jumped on one and dug it up, then did another.
Up went the netting !

So ... it could be cats.

Hi, when you fill your holes with water wash a little soil down to anchor them.

We had a major problem with rabbits last year, so don't rule them out! Last year they ate ALL my leeks, onions and runner beans, but my leeks were quite established...about a foot tall and as thick as your little finger.
This year I've built raised beds, and so far, so good
