Hi there, I'm new to this site, and really chuft I found it!

I wonder if any of you can help.  I have put liquid comfrey on my young tommies, and since then the leaves have started going brown. Could this be due to the concentration of the comfrey being to strong?  I wasn't very technical when I soaked my leaves - lots of guess work I'm afraid.

I'd really appreciate your help, not sure whether to chuck out the plants or keep them and see what happens?

Did you dilute your comfrey liquid before applying it?

By the bye, I've always watered feed onto the compost for tomatoes, rather than the leaves.  But I've no idea if foliar feeding is better.

Did you spray the leaves during this recent hot spell?
If so, maybe they're just scorched?

As Yorkie says, the liquid does need diluting, also.

i put about 1 kilo of comfrey leaves into an onion sack ,

wiegh it down into a 50 gallon water butt,

leave it for 3 weeks ,

then as i want the comfrey, i mix 1 gallon of water to 1 gallon of comfrey mix from the water butt

it looks like verty very weak tea , but by god it dont smell of weak tea lolololololol,

sounds as you are scorching your tom leaves with the mixture and it is drying on the leaves with the heat of the sun,

i would water every every week and then feed once a week, but water / feed the soil , dont let any fluid splash onto the tom leaves

Excellent, thank you, I have definitely not watered my comfrey down enough - it resembles a decent gravy rather than a weak tea!!  My poor toms.  I only put it in the soil, but it may have splashed the leaves - or was just that strong the whole plant has reacted!

I won't throw them out just yet then, and will be weakening my solution from now on.  I'm glad about that, thought it wouldn't last 2 mins!  It'll now last 3 years.

A KILO, peterjf? Wow, how many plants do you have to get a kilo of leaves?  :blink:

And no, it isn't rumoured to smell nice...which is why mine has sat with its lid firmly on for over a year - I'm scared to take it off & breathe

I've cheated & just added torn & wilted leaves to the compost of plants (toms & pots)

Will my 'tea' still be ok do you think? It's VERY black & will need diluting a LOT if so.
