i would think that the surrounding allotments will have a bit here and there just ask the person if you can av some with a smile  :D

nice and easy and costs nowt

i am sure it can be split like a hosta then replanted

You are right about splitting and replanting,we moved ours and however much we thought it wouldn`t take most did.You can`t grow too much and i normally cut it down 3-4 times a year. The flowers are nice too and bees love them.

in the same way you use comfrey as a fertilizer you may also use nettles in the same way,and you find them everywhere too,but dont you just love that shitty smell you get off the old comfrey

You can make loads from one root just chop it up into 1" pieces lay them in a seed tray with peat/sharp sand mix, then keep moist and in the shade and voilĂ ' loads of it. But once you planted it, it's there for keeps. Its poisonous to hens though. Good for broken bones

Don't know if its any good for smoking, but its long been used for leg ulcers, and it used to be called knitbone.

John has a very good article on it:

http://www.allotment-garden.org/vegetables_and_herbs/Comfrey_The_Wonder_Plant.php

If anyone wants some, mine is just coming up in 3 different places!!  Where I used to live, it never spread, but it does since we moved to Lincolnshire.

I just sent a bit to my daughter's boyfriend and his Dad with some seeds, so I texted her and said comfrey, seeds in post.  (noticed the comma between the words?)  She texted me back and said where do you buy seeds?  Now I know she's a bit thick, but anyone knows where you can buy seeds, so I phoned her and said ou can buy seeds in loads of places.  Oh but where do you buy COMFREY seeds??? she asked. Doh........ I give up!!!!!!
