   which sand is best for adding to compost for carrots?  Sharp / Silver / Builders?

I'm not positive on UK sand terminology but I understand that sharp sand is preferred for veg cropping. You need the larger grains to better aerate the soil as finer play sand will simply cause the soil to mush even further.

...maybe I picked up the ones that they had left out in the rain for numpties like me...

this year is the first time i've ever added sand to the soil - it's always worth trying something new!
obviously don't know if it works yet because i've not sown them yet....
i'm only mentioning this because i got the idea from this site.

I've never had any luck growing sand in my soil but the ones I have in my greenhouse are doing really well. 

Used 50/50 compost and sharp sand.
